Physical Fitness

by Stephen Lau

Physical fitness is an on-going physical activity that must begin today without delay or procrastination, because tomorrow may become a disease. Physical fitness gives you not only a good body image but also a clean bill of health. Physical fitness is a must for healthy living for a healthy lifestyle.

  • Physical exercise facilitates body detoxification through a higher production of white cells, perspiration, and breathing (during an aerobic workout).
  • Physical exercise increases metabolic rate to burn more calories.
  • Physical exercise enhances heart and lung efficiency through better breathing and blood circulation.
  • Physical exercise builds stronger bones.
  • Physical exercise elevates HDL (good cholesterol).
  • Physical exercise lowers blood pressure.
  • Physical exercise reduces colon cancer risk by promoting activity in the colon.
  • Physical exercise promotes muscle building and prevents atrophy. Your body breaks down when it is not being used (use it or lose it).
  • Physical exercise suppresses appetite and reduces food cravings.
  • Physical exercise keeps joint mobility and avoids joint pain.
  • Physical exercise is effective for stress management through release of build-up tension, both physical and mental.
  • Physical exercise induces clear thinking by enhancing the brain function.
  • Physical exercise is a natural mood stabilizer through increased production of endorphins (chemicals making you feel good).
  • Physical exercise benefits diabetes by increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin.
  • Physical exercise overcomes weariness through higher tolerance for fatigue.
  • Physical exercise gives more oxygen for cellular health through increased red blood production.
  • Physical exercise stimulates the immune system.
  • Physical exercise helps store more glycogen in the muscle, rather than fat in the body.

The 4 factors of physical fitness

There are 4 factors contributing to physical fitness. They are critical to healthy living for a healthy lifestyle:

  • Cardiovascular fitness is the most important factor in physical fitness. A good cardiovascular fitness program achieves the following:

  • Muscle endurance fitness is training specific muscle groups to respond optimally to prolonged physical activity. Muscle endurance training preconditions your body to use fat as fuel during physical activity.

  • Muscle strength fitness is repeated performance against a load or weight, which is at least 75 percent in excess of your muscle potential, thereby instrumental in increasing muscle fibers for more muscle strength.

  • Flexibility fitness is essentially stretching to free up blood from the muscles. In addition to supplying blood and nutrients to your muscle groups, flexibility fitness enhances the efficiency of your immune system with longer physical endurance, easier breathing, and quicker recovery

Physical fitness truths and myths

  • Sit-ups cannot reduce your tummy fat. Sit-ups only exercise your abdominal muscle with fat on it. Your body fat remains with your whole body!

  • Exercise cannot change your body fat into muscle. Fat is fat, and muscle is muscle!

  • Do not wear rubber suit to lose fat. You burn your body fat, not “sweat it off.”

  • When you exercise, you need more carbohydrates, not protein. Don’t get ripped off with protein powder!

Running

Runner’s Yoga is not just for running: it builds your core strength, strengthens and tones every major muscle in your body!

Running is one of the best and easiest exercises.  It is best for endurance training and weight loss. It is also the easiest exercise: you don’t need any equipment other than a pair of running shoes; unlike other sports, you don’t even need to demonstrate any athletic ability.

Running is the perfect physical exercise for weight loss:

  • It burns your calories.
  • It improves your body’s metabolism.
  • It lowers your blood pressure.
  • It decreases your cholesterol and triglyceride.
  • It maintains your psychological ability.

Running may be the perfect sport: everybody can run almost any time and any place. But not everyone would want to run – that is, sticking to the exercise of running. Research studies have indicated that only 10 to 15 percent of people who are engaged in running will continue to run.

You may not like to run if you are athletic and muscular, or heavy set.

You are a born natural runner if you have the following characteristics:

  • You are lean and narrow with a small waist.
  • Your body weight is twice your height in inches.

Are you fit to run? If you are, then run. Running is an ideal physical exercise for physical fitness.
